Boko Haram: EU lunches resilience program for 52,000 Yobe householdsMr

A total of 52, 000 households in Yobe State will benefit from a new European Union Resilience program.
The €26 million project will be spread across Damaturu, Geidam, Gujba, Gulani, Potiskum and Yunusari Local Government areas which were worse hit by the Boko Haram insurgency in the state.
Head of EU delegation to Nigeria, Mr. Kurt Cornelis, disclosed this Tuesday at the lunching of the program in Damaturu, Yobe State capital.
 A  statement by the EU who are the funders of the project also added that , "the program is aimed at strengthening the recovery and resilience of Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) and other vulnerable groups in Yobe State", adding that, "the EU has earmarked €26 million through its 11th European Development Fund for the project" .
 Mr. Kurt Cornelis said the EU is committed to supporting people that have been affected by the Boko Haram insurgency. 

The project is to  be executed by EU experienced  partners including Mercy Corps', Cooperazione Internationale (COOPI), Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and Save the Children.

The Statement further explained that Mercy Corps will improve the capacity of 26,000 displaced households in handling shocks and stresses of conflict, climate change and complex crisis through its expertise in ‘Building Resilience in Complex Crisis’ (BRICC) program with the total sum of 14 million euros.

On the other hand, Save the Children will use 12 million euros to  take another 26,000 vulnerable households and “strengthen their early recovery, improve human development, social cohesion and resilience”. Under this group, families will get financial support with diversified livelihoods through effective support for market recovery, skills development and enhance state capacity in technical assistance.
Mr. Cornelis disclosed that the  project is expected  to last between 2019 and 2022.
In his address , Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana called on communities to embrace the program and give it the necessary support to succeed.
He thanked the EU for their support while charging them   to justify the confidence reposed on them.
The Emirs of Damaturu, Ngazargamu , Gujba,, Potiskum  were in attendance for the lunching which took place at the Media Centre of Government House Damaturu.
