The newly appointed Executive Secretary of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Mohammed Goje has spoke of his vision to reposition the agency to achieve the highest excellency during his spell at the helm of affairs.

Dr. Goje at his inaugural speech to the staff of the agency at a hand-over ceremony held at the office in Damaturu said his experience in the humanitarian sector both home and abroad mixed with the vast knowledge of the staff he is meeting at the agency will produce a model of SEMA that will become a reference point to other states in the country to follow.

"Work is generally a learning process. There are  a lot of things that exist that we learn other times, there are innovations that we will bring and others will come and learn from us. This is an opportunity to make things work better for us. I came from the development sector.

"I have worked in the Humanitarian sector for over seven years both home and abroad. I am bring the knowledge and the experience of the development world and I am here meeting people with vast knowledge on the implementing side of the government. When we joint the two, we are going to have a ruboost SEMA that the world will see and appreciate that we have come of age.

"We will bring out a model that  other state will come for learning exchange to study how we operate. But this can only be possible if we imbibe the spirit of team work.

"This is a task given to us that we have to follow it religiously. when i say religiously, i mean we have to prove to His Excellency that the world continuity and consolidation he stated will be strictly adhered to and the transparency that he emphasized and we will key into all his vision.

"I am here with an open mind to ideas for the benefit of our people. We must eschew petty things and focus on our job to make our state proud," Dr. Goje said.

Dr. Goje while thanking the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve in the capacity called on the state to key into the vision of continuity, consolidation and transparency in achieving the set objectives of the government.

His words: "I want to  thank our Governor His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni for giving me the opportunity to come and work with like minds. His meaning of continuity is that, good things are going and we have to consolidate on them. If our pass mark is A1, His Excellency expects us to have A1+ in the next activities that we are going to take. That is our interpretation of his continuity. we are going to add value and improve on where we found ourselves.

"Another emphasis he made on his speech is that he is very passionate about the reconstruction and the resettlement of our people. His Excellency Mai Mala Buni is directly affected by this insurgency. You are aware that Boko Haram is the worse crisis in African and beyond today and Borno, Yobe and Adamawa are the worse hit in terms of the crisis. When you come to Yobe, the crisis has affected more the 3Gs local government ie Gujba, Gulani and Geidam. His Excellency coming from Gujba knows how it feels in this crisis.

"I will like to call on every one of us present here to note that, the fact that we have responsibility here to contribute to this administration does not mean we are superior to any other person. it is just a mere opportunity that God has given us to reach to our people in different ways. We all have our capacity. If one person can do this work, then there wont be need for all of us to be here. One person cannot do it. Its a team work and we must all come together with our different talent. I want to call all of us to work with Emergency Mode. In my last assignment, i have also worked as an emergency person. That emergency in our name must always be our watch word with action.

"One key thing that the governor has been emphasizing is transparency. This is a responsibility vested on us. I was not here yesterday. Somebody else was. He either finished his tenure by retirement or by age or by death or by resignation. You cannot avoid any of these. No matter how much i want tot transform SEMA and work for the state, time will come when i will have to move on either as a result of any circumstance that i have mentioned earlier. It may be because of probably another responsibility but one thing you will have to know is that SEMA will remain here. This project is our project and the project of Yobe people. We all take the credit if it is good and we all share the blame if its bad. We pray that it will always be good. Let us be transparent and show the world that SEMA in Yobe has a model that other states will come and copy," Dr. Goje said.

Dr. Goje also called on his friends who witnessed the handing over ceremony to be good ambassadors of SEMA by providing useful advice to the management and staff of the agency to succeed, stressing that, "my doors are open to every idea that will move this agency forward for the glory of our state".

The Executive Secretary later held a close door meeting with the staff of the agency, signifying his first official engagement with  them.
