Gov Buni promises more support for Miyetti Allah members in Yobe

Gov. Buni

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni said the support of the state government to members of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of  Nigeria will not dwindle but improve drastically.

Gov. Buni disclose this today in Damaturu when members of the Association in the state led by its National Secretary, Baba Usman  Ngelzarma paid him a courtesy call at the government House Damaturu.

According to him, his administration “will continue to support livestock breeders with vaccination and animal feeds to help the farmers and to generate revenue for the state”.

The governor commended members of the Miyetti Allah in the state for maintain a cordial relationship with communities across the state, while calling for the sustainance of the relationship.

Gov. Mai Mala who had however endorsed the Federal Government Ruga Settlement policy before it was suspended by the Federal Government believed that the objective of maintaining peace between the herders/farmers would have been achieved through the program.

Gov. Buni had also expressed the willingness of his state, Yobe to key into the program were it not suspended.

"I am optimistic that, if implemented by the states, it will provide permanent solution to herders/farmers conflict across the country", Gov. Buni had  said.

Earlier, the  National Secretary of MACBAN, Baba Usman  Ngelzarma, who led the state officials on the visit praised the support and the relative peace being enjoyed by herders and pastoralists in Yobe State.

Ngelzarma also commended the state government for the free vaccination of animals of their members in the state by the state government while calling for the tempo to be maintained.

The National Secretary like the Governor also took his time to speak on the Ruga Setllement policy of the Federal Government hours before its suspension.

He noted that the program was misunderstood even by educated Nigerians, adding that the policy was not going to be forced on any state that was not interested.

“This is a misunderstood concept even by educated Nigerian.  Although,  I think some people are doing it deliberately. This is  a concept that was intended for the states that wish to have them. it’s not going to be enforced on any state and the Federal Government has come up clear to tell the world that the concept will only be introduced in states that have shown their willingness to have Ruga settlement.
“If you have no interest you are out, if you are interested, you will be considered. Simple! I see no reason why a whole nation is today so disturbed about the Ruga concept. It’s funny. I don’t see the reason why somebody is bothered with the things that doesn’t concern him. This is supposed to be the concern of those states  that have interest in the Ruga program and it will be established in the state. Moreover, the state governors are the custodians of land in their states so if they are not interested, no Federal Government will enforce anything in their state as far as land is concern”, Ngelzarma explained.

On the recent comment by Prof. Wole Syinka on the matter, the MACBAN National cribe wonder; “How can Ruga settlement put Nigeria on fire. Like I said earlier,  its only going to be introduced by states that are interested in the project. Its is not going to be established in states that are not interested so how can that bring problem to anybody.

“What people should understand is that, from three years to today, over N300 billion  was spent on crop production. The fish producers have enjoyed the scheme. With the ban on the importation of palm oil, the Central Bank has released N30 billion  for palm oil production.  Of the N300 billion, nothing has been spent on livestock.

“I see no reason why some money are been spent on livestock and people start complaining. Some people have come out to say this is a private business and government should not invest in it forgetting that the roads that we use are constructed by Federal Government with tax payers’ money. If you monies are being spent by Federal Government for the maintain ace of road construction. If people can be using roads constructed by Federal Government for free, I see no reason why some little money is kept for the establishment of Ruga on the states that show interest and people are complaining”, Ngelzarma queried.
