Mai Ruwas strike in Damaturu over alledge military assult on members

Empty water canes.
Residents of Damaturu today wake up without water supply from water vendors popularly called Mai Ruwa as they have embarked on a protest strike over allegations of assault on some of their members.
The incident was said to have taken place at the Jerusalem area of the town where water supply to residents is normally carried out by the water vendor since there is no government borehole nor water reticulation in the area.
The situation has thrown many families into hardship as their daily water supplies was abruptly cut-off causing lateness of children to school having spent frantic hours scouting for water.
Some of the water vendors said , the soldiers stormed their colony and beat them up harshly and carted away with seven to six handsets belonging to some of their members.
Narrating the cause of the incident, one of the Mai Ruwas informed that the entire fight was centred on a girl whom one of their members sexually assaulted.
He however explained that the matter was sorted out between the family of the girl and their member only for them to be visited by soldiers at night who started beating them up with gun boots and iron whips.
On how the soldiers came into the picture of the issue, the vendors fingered one  guy who is suspected to have a relationship with the girls that went and invited his military friends who took over the matter.
When contacted, the spokesman of Sector II Operation Lafiya Dole, Lt. Njoka Irabor, “Let me call somebody and confirm if it is actually soldiers.  It’s an illegal action. They took the action based on the relationship with the person. Nobody sent them there. If it is actually soldiers that did that. But I promise I will get back to you as soon as I have details of what happened”, Lt. Irabor said.
