The North East Zonal Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Alhassan Yahaya has been appointed as a Nutrition Champion in Gombe State and the North East at large by Civil Society Scalling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) and Mamaye Evidence4Action.

 Mr. Yahaya who  earned the Nutrition Championship status due to his effective usage of media advocacy as a tool for the improvement of health service and nutrition for children in Gombe State  was decorated at   meeting held in Abuja recently.

Part of his mandate going forward is to continue to champion  nutrition  advocacy through the load voice of the media to attract huge budget allocations for nutrition intervention in the state and the region at a whole.

He is also mandated to to liaise with various MDAs in the state since malnutrition is multi sectoral  so as to jump-start their interests and increase awareness in the reduction of the high rate of the menace.

Malnutrition is believed to be worse situated in the Northeastern part of Nigeria.

Mr. Yahaya told our correspondent that he is enthusiasm has quadrupled to do more with the recognition he has received from CS-SUNN and Mamaye Evidence 4 Action.

“It is always rewarding when people recognized you modest contribution to society. I want to say that my enthusiasm has been quadrupled with this recognition by these two organization to do more.  This recognition is also a call to duty and I will not take this for granted,” Mr. Yahaya said.

 ImpactOnlineNigeria checks reveal that  Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) is a non-governmental, non-profit making coalition, made up of organizations with a shared vision to transform Nigeria into a country where every citizen has food and is nutrition secured. We pursue this lofty goal by engaging government and non-state actors to raise awareness, sustain commitment and actions to effectively tackle under-nutrition in Nigeria. The coalition was formally launched on the 7th of August, 2014.
The organization  has  a common vision with clearly defined roles and responsibilities, clear accountability and sustainability framework. The guiding principles of the alliance include; Evidence based decision making, Gender mainstreaming, Equity, Feed- back, Diversity, Value for money Transparency and Integrity.
The coalition draws from the wealth of experience of its Steering Committee members headed by Dr. David Olayemi of Save the Children an expert in nutrition advocacy as Chairman, Beatrice Eluaka, a former Nutrition Society of Nigeria president and Head of Nutrition in the Federal Ministry of Health who heads the Secretariat as project Director, etc. and the General Assembly which is made up of organizations and individuals who have carved a niche for themselves in the field of public health nutrition and food security.
