Flood destroys over 300 households in Yobe

  Not fewer than 300 households have been washed away by flood in Ngalda town of Fika Local Government in Yobe State. The flood has also displaced over 1000 people in the village.

 Some of the residents disclosed to our correspondent in Ngalda that their food stuffs and farmlands have been destroyed by  the midnight rain of Wednesday which caused the Ngalda River to overflow into the village and away a sizeable part of the village.

 Idris Ali, one of the victims of the flood disclosed that his six bags of maize and the entire house was sank in water.

 According to him, over one hundred houses were affected by the flood. He explained that the water came from a tributary of Ngalda River which over flowed as a result of the Wednesday midnight rain.

 Another resident Adamu Ngalda with his family of 3 wives and 12 children were also affected by the flood. Adamu disclosed that he has packed in with his relatives from the other side of the town.

 In the meantime, the Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana was at Ngalda village to pay sympathies to the people on behalf of His Excellency Gov. Mai Mala Buni. Alhaji disclosed that the governor has directed  the State Emergency Management Agency for  immediate relief comprising of rice, clothing etc for the victims.

 He disclosed that "more than 300 households have destroyed and over 1000 people affected".

Speaking on the immediate shelter needs of the displaced people, Alh Idi Barde Gubana said over 70% of the displaced people have been absorbed by their kith and kin in the community while the remaining 30% are staying in a temporary accommodation at a primary school in the village.

Amadu Tijani, district Head of Ngalda disclosed that some communities in Bauchi and Gombe living along the river banks were alerted of the impending flood from the river.
