UPDATES: Yobe woman with swollen abdomen gets help, as condition worsen

Sadiya with her swollen stomach

Hope has finally come to Sadiya Mohammed as a philanthropist from her home state Yobe has promised to take up her medical bills to save her life.

The cheering news got to the family yesterday even as their saviour, Alhaji Umar Ali visited the family  yesterday in Potiskum after returning from Ngalda where he donated relief materials to the flood victims of the village.

Umar Ali is one of the APC governorship aspirants in the 2018 primary elections in Yobe State who refused to step down for the present governor Mai Mala Buni after he was anointed as the party's preferred candidate by then Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam.

The Philanthropist, politician and businessman told our correspondent that picking up medical bills of vulnerable people and giving sucour to needy communities has been part of his life even before he ventured into politics.

According to him, there is no limit to what assistance he would be rendering for Sadiya to stand on her feet again, which he said its "my ultimate goal".

"This is part of the program that I have been doing for a long time. Giving assistance to the sick, helping students and giving them scholarship to study and sinking boreholes to communities that are poor and cannot afford to dig a well if  I get wind of their plight.

"I was in Ngalda yesterday for the flood that happened in the area to sympathize with them and also gave them the token that I have. I have read about that woman in the media and one of the journalist that we traveled to Ngalda also drew my attention to it and I drove straight to the house to see the condition for myself.

"I have detailed my boys to go back to Postiskum hospital and get the card so that we will understand the history of the sickness  in order to  take it up. I have told my boys to get a referral letter from Postikum General Hospital so that we can take her to either Gombe or Kano or even any where that her problem could be solved. I will follow the matter to a logical conclusion. There is no limit to what assistance I will give to them," Ali said.

Yahaya Hassan, the husband of Sadiya, who is a tricycle mechanic said he cannot express his joy on the pronouncement of Umar Ali to take up the bills for his wife's condition.

His only prayer is for God to reward Mr. Ali for his kind gestures to the family.

He narrated how life has been difficult with him since the strange sickness caught his wife for more than two years running.

According to him, his wife does not sleep at night, just as eating has becoming more or less like poison to her.

"Eating food has become like poison to her. Anytime she eats, the stomach keeps expanding and she finds it very difficult to breath," the husband explained.

Our correspondent who visited the family in Potiskum observed that Sadiya could hardly breath, neither was she able to talk.

But the husband informed that, "she talks some time when the condition calms down. But talking and breathing is normally not easy for her. Sometime when the condition is bad like now, she cannot talk at all".

It is our hope that the promised of Mr. Ali will be urgently done.

Luckily, Mr. Ali has assured that Sadiya will be taken out of Potiskum to a better hospital very early tomorrow Thursday, the 16th of August for robust medical diagnosis.
