The Deputy Governor of Yobe
State, Alh. Idi Barde Gubana has called on the media in the state to spread their
coverage to the hinter areas of the state rather than concentrate on the state
capital.
Alhaji Gubana made the call when
the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe State Chapter
paid him a sallah homage at the presidential lodge in Damaturu.
Gubana while expressing his
gratitude to the working journalists in the state observed that the media
coverage is more concentrated at the centre of the state and appealed on the
media to make more efforts in covering the rural areas of the state as well.
“I want to say that this
government is happy with the level of coverage you have accorded to it and we
hope the relationship will continue in that light. I will however want to
observed that your coverage of activities is more concentrated at the state
capital. I will enjoin you to do more by also covering the rural areas of the
state to bring out the issues that are affecting our people to the world,”
Gubana said.
“The deputy governor also pledged that commitment
of the state government to support the media in the state, stressing that, the
media is one of the major stakeholders in the survival of our democracy and
therefore, we must do everything as a government to support their operations,”
Gubana disclosed.
Earlier, the State Chairman of
the NUJ, Comrade Yusuf Isa conveyed the felicitation of the Union to the state
government in the spirit of the sallah celebration.

Comrade Isa also pledge the
commitment of the journalists in the state to supporting the state government
in executing its programs and policies for the benefit of the state.
The chairman promised that all
working journalists in the state will remain focused and objective in their
reportage of the activities of the government.
The Sallah homage was attended by
some officials of affiliate association of the NUJ in the state including,
Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, National Association of Women
Journalists and other members of NUJ Chapels in the state.
The deputy Governor was also flanked
by the member representing Potiskum Nangere Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibrahim
Umar Potiskum, some member of the State House of Assembly and Uztaz Babagana
Kyari.
