Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni told splashed money on the State Female Hockey team in appreciation of their outstanding feat at the 2019 National Super League Championship.
The Governor who hosted the team today at the government house in Damaturu announced a cash donation of N200,000 for the 18 member team.
In his remarks at the event, Governor Buni said the trophy won by the team is a product of "resilience, discipline and team spirit" that characterize the female hockey team's sporting exploits.
The governor praised the team's accomplishment, saying "their success is a pride for us all".
"I am also pleased to note that the trophy won by our state female hockey team in the 2019 National Super League Championship is a measure of the team’s resilience, discipline and team spirit. Their success is a pride for us all.

"I
want to assure you that we shall continue to support sports development in the
state by encouraging our talented sportsmen and women to compete in various sporting
championships and competitions," the Governor said.
The trophy won by the team was presented to the governor by the team's coach Lucy Michael.
The team is set to represent Nigeria in the African Hockey Championship in Egypt in December, 2019.
