US based ICT university donates e-Library to Yobe State University

Professors Muhktar and Mbarika commissioning the e-learning library at Yobe State University



A USA based university, Information Communication Technology University(ICTU) today commissioned an E-library facility to Yobe State University in northeast Nigeria, West Africa.

The e-Library is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two universities on driving learning through information technology.

The Vice Chancellor of Yobe State University Prof. Yakubu Muhktar, other principal staff of the university including the registrar, DV Admin and Academics with the Chairman Board of Directors/President of ICTU, Luissaina, USA, Prof. Victor Mbarika together commissioned the project which is located at the Goodluck Jonathan Library of the Institution.

In his introductory remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Yobe State university, Prof. Muhktar expressed happiness that some segments of the MoU between the two universities are beginning to come to fruition.

He called on staff and students to key into what he described as “the enormous and huge opportunities that the ICTU will bring to this young institution of ours”.

Prof. Muhktar also pledged his commitment as head of YSU to exploit more linkages for the growth of the institution in other to achieve excellence in learning and research so as to place it on an enviable global pedestal.

He also noted that the institution will continue to play her part in ensuring that all the other parts of the MoU are achieved.

Prof.Muhktar commended the ICTU and their donors for identifying with Yobe State University  in the area of Information Technology, while promising to be a worthy partner.

Also speaking, the President of ICTU,Prof. Victor Mbarika called on the management of the university, the staff and students to make use of the center.
“This e-Learning and e-Library is absolutely useless if it is not used. I hate to hear that something went wrong and this centre is not working. We will always play our part as ICT University. If there is a little problem, please notify us. We have staff at our data centre working 24 hours a day and seven days in a week that can correct any error remotely.

“But if it is something that is physical, we have a team on ground that can handle it. If the Nigerian team cannot handle it, our team from Finland can fly in to take care of the problem. I wouldn’t be happy to hear that something did not work because ICT university did not play its part.

 “You have a huge repository of text books here that your students can use. Make good use of it,” Prof. Mbarika said.

The e-Library

Our correspondent reports that in Febuary this year, Prof. Muhkta of Yobe State university and Prof. Victor Mbarika of ICTU signed an MoU at the Senate Council Chambers of Yobe State University in Damaturu where commitments were drawn from both universities.

During the signing of the MoU in February, Prof. Mbarika while giving an insight in composition of the MoU as well as stressing the seriousness of his institution to the actualization of the projects said:  “We have equipment for the E-learning and the E-Library and a Multi-Media equipment to help with the implementation of the Health Technology Diploma Program with this University’s School of Medicine. Our goal is to ensure that there is a strong information technology presence or we continue to enhance the presence of IT that this institution already has through the great leadership of Prof. Mukhtar.
“We will be having a lot of Lecturers and Students Exchanges in this institution. I don’t want this to be based on equipment, equipment. Our number one goal is research and scholarship and we will ensure that good research comes out of both institutions so that Yobe State will be one of the Premier destinations of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence and modern areas of IT Research” Prof Mbarika explained
