Yobe Assembly holds public hearing on traffic law

The Yobe State House of Assembly today held a public hearing on the bill for the establishment of a traffic law in the state.

Titled, “ Law to Establish the Yobe State Traffic Management Agency and other Connected Matters” was declared opened by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ahmed  Lawan Mirwa.

In his address, the Speaker stressed the importance of road transportation has a significant all round impact on the life of a people in the society and therefore called on his colleagues to take the assignment serious and come out with workable and an effective law for the development of the state.

Hon. Mirwa also called on the public to take advantage of the public hearing and make their inputs for the law makers whom he promised will do justice to their contribution for the establishment of the law.

“It is in recognition of the importance of effective Road Transport which is central to the economic growth, employment, education, market and revenue generation that  we in the legislature are determined to sponsor bills and open it to the public to make inputs, whether written or verbally through public hearing in order to promote inclusion and carry all and sundry along.

“I therefore urge you to feel free and contribute meaningfully and to assure you that all your inputs will be studied carefully with a view to considering them in the process of passing the Bill,” the Speaker urged.

Earlier, the Chairman House standing Committee on Transport and energy, Abdullahi Adamu Bazuwa said the bill when passed into law will create employment in the state, boost revenue generation and help in the reduction of accidents on the highway in the state.

He promised that all input will be carefully studied and incorporated for the final document, while calling on the public not to shy away from making inputs for the bill.

Memorandums and positions were presented  from the State Ministry of Justice, Revenue Board, the Federal Road Safety Corp, the Vehicle Inspection Office,  Yobe State Network of Civil Society Organisation at the public hearing.
