Yobe State Governor Hon. Mai
Mala Buni has declared Zero Hunger for persons with Disability in Yobe State.
This was disclosed by the APC
Northeast Special Zonal Leader and Head of Gender and Social Inclusion, Network
of Yobe State Civil Societies, Comrade Mohammed Abba Isa at the distribution of
food relief materials donated by Gov. Mai Mala Buni to persons with disabilities at Maisadari ward
in Damaturu, Yobe State Capital.
Comrade Isa who announced to
the cheering applause of his people that Gov. Mai Mala Buni whom he describes
as ‘Master of Inclusion’ in line with the sustainable development goals has
declared zero hunger for persons with disability in the state.
“Our governor has declared
zero hunger for people with disability. Henceforth, our Governor Mai Mala Buni don’t
want to see or hear that anybody is hungry in the state especially we the
disabled people”, he announced.
Comrade Isa also regretted
that the number of disabled people in the northeast has increased drastically
as a result of the Boko Haram crisis in the last ten years.
The APC Special Zonal Leader
disclosed that out of the over two million people that are displaced by the Boko
Haram insurgency, about 15% of the number is believed to have been thrown into
one disability or the other.
“If you look around, the Boko
Haram crisis has made our number to increase. The number of disabled people
that we have in the northeast today is not what we use to have in the last few
years ago. The number has increased drastically because of this Boko Haram
crisis. By statistics, 15% of the people that are displaced in the northeast as
a result of the Boko Haram crisis are disabled people.
“This is why our Governor, Mai
Mala Buni does not joke with anything that affects us and we are very thankful
to his commitment to our plight and we pray that Allah will continue to give
him good health and wisdom to lead Yobe to the promise land”, Abba Isa said.
According to Comrade Isa, he
secured the food relief materials from Gov. Mai Mala Buni via a text message as
a result of his accessibility to the people especially persons with disability.

“One of the basic ingredients
of good governance is accessibility. Our governor is accessible to everyone
therefore it has made things very easy for us to reach him anytime we have problem.
It was just a text message that I sent to the governor to inform him of the
problem we are facing and in less than one hour he sent in this food relief
materials for us,” Comrade Abba informed.
Comrade Isa told the people to
continue to pray for Gov. Buni to achieve his dreams of building a new Yobe,
just as he solicited the cooperation of all members of the disabled community
in the state to support his leadership so as to tap more dividends from the
government.
He reminded them of how Gov.
Buni has given scholarship to 20 youths with disability to study abroad. A gesture
he said has never been done in the history of the country not even by the
federal government.
The representative of Gov. Mai
Mala at the occasion, Bature Goniri who is also the State Coordinator of Bra
Bra/Buni Youth Alliance in the 2019 election called on the people to be united
in their course for their greater success.
Bature, explained that Gov.
Buni has demystified governance by bringing it to the level of the common man.

We have a governor that has
brought governance to the door step of every common man in Yobe. Government is
no longer a secret as our governor is open and accessible to everyone. Above all,
he is a good listener who makes sure that he takes action for every complaint
that he gets from the people of the state especially the vulnerable ones,”
Bature said.
Many other speakers who spoke
at the occasion praise the leadership qualities of gov. Buni just as they also
prayed for him to succeed.
Highlights of the occasion was
the distribution of the rice to different group leaders of the disability
community which include the deaf and dumb, the blind, cripples etc.
