…Air Force to acquire two helicopter gunships to fight Boko Haram

Yobe State Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni has called for the establishment of an Airforce Base in Damaturu, Yobe State capital.
Gov. Buni made the call yesterday when he received the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Damaturu on Thursday.
The Governor who described the Air Force as one of the strategic component in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency said the presence of Air Force Base in the State will help in flushing out Boko Haram hideouts in the state.
Gov. Buni also requested for the establishment of an Airforce Command Secondary School in the state.
“Considering the strategic position of our state in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents, and the fact that we are currently completing an international Cargo Airport here in Damaturu, I wish to request the Chief of Air Staff for the establishment of an Air Force Base in the state. I believe it would be faster and easier for the Air Force to take out Boko Haram bases and hideouts and strengthen our internal security system if we have an Air Force Base in place.
“I also request for the establishment of an Air Force Command Secondary School in our State to enable our people benefit from the numerous services that such schools render,” Gov Buni requested.
Earlier in his address, the Chief of Air Staff, said the Air Force will soon acquire two helicopter gunships to completely dismantle the insurgents in the Northeast.
The Air Chief also disclosed that they have trained about 100 pilots some of whom are working in the Northeast.
He explained that the acquisition of the helicopter gunships with increased surveillance and the protection of the people in the Northeast.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Air Staff with Governor Mai Mala Buni took an inspection tour of the Damaturu Cargo Airport.
Interacting with journalists after the airport inspection, Air Marshal Sadiq said he was satisfied with what he has seeing in at the airport.
Speaking on the request of the governor for the establishment of an Air Force Base, Air Marshal Sadiq announced that the coming of the Airport is a clear indication that an Air Force Base will automatically come to Damaturu.
About the school, the Air Chief said, " its a gradual process".
