The Executive Secretary of Yobe State
Scholarship Board, Dr. Abubakar Kagu has challenged the outgoing president of
the National Union of Yobe State Student to demonstrate uncommon commitment to
ensure the conduct of a credible election that will bring in his successor.
Dr. Kagu made the charge at the swearing-in of members
of the electoral committee of NUYOSS who
are saddled with the responsibility of conducting the election that will usher
in the new executives of the association in 2020.
According to him, “Leadership comes with honor,
integrity and responsibility, this is why I felt that the best place for you to
take this oath is the faculty of law of the state university.
“There have been complaints and writing of
petitions in my office about the election but I am happy that nobody is
insulting anybody. Everybody is just writing their complaints and speaking
their minds on the issues. That is the beauty of democracy and I must commend
you peoples.
But my message to you people especially the
outgoing president and members of the electoral committee is that you ensure
that a fair and credible election is conducted that will usher in your
successor. In that way you can stand tall and your name will be written in
gold. Anything short of that will be the opposite of your reputation,” Dr. Kagu
advised.

The Executive Secretary also disclosed that he
decided to honor the inauguration of the electoral committee to show commitment
and give leadership to the student body, just as he also felt nostalgic during
his days as a student unionist a decade ago.
He promised that the Board under his leadership
will continue to support that student in every way and manner both in academic,
political and their social lives.
In his remarks, the Director of Personale of
the Board, Mohamed Babaji called on the student to take advantage of the cooperation
of the board to their political activities so as to shape their future for
greater tomorrow.
The DPM also called on the student to always be
good ambassadors of the State where ever they found themselves.
The outgoing National president of NUYOSS, Comrade
Abdulmumin Liman re-emphasized his
confidence in the members of the electoral committee that they will be
impartial in the discharge of their duties.
“I want to assure this gathering that member of
the electoral committee will be impartial in doing their jobs because they were
not selected based on my personal interest but for the interest of the progress
of this association. In fact, don’t even know some of them. Their names were
just forwarded from their local chapters,” the president assured.
Highlight of the event was the taking of oath
by the members of the electoral committee which was administered by Barr.
Mohammed Ngumurumi.
