Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture(CONSCCIMA) in Damaturu.
CONSCCIMA is the largest regional organised private
sector which comprises of 19 northern chambers of commerce including the FCT. It
is also the biggest business assemblage which has particular interest in
Northern Nigeria which was established 38 years ago with its headquarters at
Kaduna, Kaduna state.
Among many objectives, the coalition seeks to
promote the growth of the private sector in northern Nigeria for sustainable
and accelerated economic growth as well as provide platform to articulate the business
interest of northern Nigeria including initiating, supporting or opposing
legislative, executive or judicial actions in furtherance of business interest
in Northern Nigeria etc.
While declaring the AGM open, Yobe State Governor,
Hon. Mai Mala Buni who was represented at the occasion by the Hon. Commissioner
for Commerce, Trade and Industry, Barma Shettima said the opportunity to host the
coalition was too good to resist as his vision for the state is geared towards
industrialization and self-sustenance through the revitalization of moribund industry
and an agricultural revolution.
“This visit will no doubt afford us the opportunity
to discuss matters aimed at cementing the already existing cordial relationship
and partnership that exist between the Coalition on one hand and Yobe State
Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture on the other. This will
also avail us the window of exploring avenues geared towards promoting the
resources and potentials that our State is blessed with for revitalizing
business and economic activities in partnership with all stakeholders
represented here,” the governor said.
The governor also expressed optimism that, “with
the visit, together with the Coalition
of Northern Chamber of Commerce and the State Chamber of Commerce and the
Organised Private Sector(OPS), we will open a new chapter towards
re-invigoration and re-focusing our priorities, setting targets for the public
and private sector partnerships for investments promotion and fashioning out clear strategies for the
implementation of our economic development planned programs”.
Gov. Buni announced that his government has already
began a chat in the stimulation of economic growth in the state with the
encouragement of Public – Private – Partnership friendly policies having
partner with Nigeria Shippers’ Council for the construction of a Trailer
Transit Park in Potiskum and Family Homes for the building of 3600 houses
across the state, the construction of Ultra-Modern Market in Damaturu,
