Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has lunched a livelihood program for people displaced by the Boko Haram crisis in the state.

It is expected to empower 5, 293 displaced people from four Local Government areas of Geidam, Gujba, Yunusari and Gulani. The four LGAs were the worse hit during the Boko Haram crisis.

Presiding over the lunching of the livelihood at Buni Yadi today Thursday, the governor advised beneficiaries to desist from selling out the items but put them into long term use for optimal benefit.

ImpactOnlineNigeria  findings revealed that the IDPs have a chronic habit of selling out their items at give-away prices even at the venue of distribution of such items. Some of the beneficiaries have always attributed their actions to lack of cash to take care of some immediate family needs.

“It is gratifying to note that the livelihood materials we are gathered here to witness their distribution consist of 300 animal traction packages; ram fattening; goat breeding; fish farming items; chicken production materials; artisanal fishing materials; improved seeds package, and dignity kit packages.  It is important to note that one set of animal traction kit per two persons, three rams per person as well as four goats per person will be distributed.

“In all, 5, 293 people from the four local government areas will benefit. For the purpose of achieving the desired goals, it is significant for me to enjoin beneficiaries of these livelihood and empowerment packages to avoid selling the materials off under whatever pretext. They should ensure that the materials are put into proper use for their own maximum benefits,” Gov. Buni said.

While pledging his commit to sustain partnership with the AfDB and other partners in the state, the Governor announced that the program will be expanded to other Local Government of the State for maximum impact.

Gov. Mai Mala Buni who emphasised the need for a peaceful atmosphere for development said; “I wish to emphasize that no meaningful development could be achieved without peace. In this regard, I would like to reiterate my deep appreciation on the renewed determination of His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari to end the Boko Haram Insurgency, kidnapping and other security challenges bedevilling the country. I would also like to commend the gallantry of the men and women of our armed forces and other security agencies.

“I enjoin the all the people of our state to continue to pray to Almighty Allah for the full return of peace in the state and the country in general”.
