Yobe moves to boost IGR, sets up mobilization committee

Worried by the low domestic revenue generated by the state, the Yobe State Government has set up a revenue mobilization committee to step its local revenue generation.

ImpactOnlineNigeria  findings also revealed that the decade long Boko Haram insurgency has equally had a toll on the internal revenue generation of the State with the closure of markets and lack of free movement of economic activities in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam  Wali  disclosed this at an interactive radio program on the State owned Radio Station(Yobe Broadcasting Corporation).

The program, a Hausa phone-in program is aimed at  encouraging  citizens participation on the activities of government in both finances and accountability was jointly featured by the State  Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, the Yobe State House of Assembly  Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation as well as the Executive Director of Network for Civil Society Organizations in the state.

The SSG disclosed that the new Task Force is headed by the current permanent Secretary in the ministry of Finance, Alhaji Mohammed Abatcha Geidam.

Part of the mandate of the committee according Baba Mallam Wali is to ensure the immediate land registrations and collection of annual land rents from allottees of plots across the state among other things.

In his contribution,  the State Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Mohammed Garba Gagiyo, said the 2020 budget review was done in consideration of some peculiarities especially, the COVID 19 pandemic.

The 
steps we took were proactive measures to ensure that no gap was created in the implementation of the  2020 fiscal Budget,” the commissioner said.

While making his remarks, chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation Alhaji Chiroma A. Buba Mashio, said the House has considered the welfare needs of the electorate in improving the downsizing of the 2020 budget estimate.


In his contribution, Executive 
Director, Yobe State Network for Civil Society organizations Comrade, Abubakar   Baba Shehu praised Yobe State for the management of funds in the state.


“We the Civil Society organizations are  impressed with the transparent and accountable manner in which Yobe government has  handled the management of public funds in Yobe state so far. It is our hope and prayer that the situation gets better and the citizens enjoy the dividends of service delivery in the state,” Baba Shehu said.

ImpactOnlineNigeria  recalled that the Yobe State  Budget was revised from N108,314,101.082 to N86,049,111.105 following the passage of the revised budget by the State House of Assembly.

The current Recurrent Expenditure  now stand for N51,894,502,757 while Capital Expenditure is 34,154,608,348.
