COVID-19: Borno/Yobe set dates for resumption

Ahead of the Federal Government directives for the re-opening of schools for the exit classes after more than four month of closure due covid 19 pandemic, both Borno and Yobe States are taken safety measure before setting dates for the reopening of their schools.

 

Both state government have embarked on the fumigation of public and private schools and clearing of bushes that have taken over the school premises due to the long absence of human activities in the schools compounds.

 

Our correspondent reports that other safety protocols are also being put in place in the schools including wash facilities.

 

Yobe State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Mohamed Sani  Idris said the state Government is putting up finishing touches before the resumption of schools in the state.

 

 Dr. Sani who spoke with our correspondent in Damaturu, said, his ministry has had a joint inter ministerial meeting with the ministry of Health and Ministry of Environment where decisions have been taken to fumigate all public and private schools before the resumption.

 

“We want to ensure a safe environment for our children and the teachers before they resume. His Excellency our Governor, Mai mala Buni has directed that we must abide to the directives of the Federal government. We will soon open the schools after all the needful are done but it wont take time at all,” Dr. Sani informed.

 

In another development, the Yobe State Primary Health Management Board donated 100 contactless hand-washing machines to be donated to schools across the state ahead of the resumption.

 

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Kundi Machine who presented the machines to the Hon. Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Mohammed Sani Idris said the machines will help is solving the spread of the virus across the schools.

 

In Borno State, the Education Commissioner Bello Ayuba said all boarding schools in Borno will resume by Sunday 9, August, 2020 with academic activities commencing on the 10, August, 2020.

 

Mr. Ayuba also disclosed that, the state has embarked on a one week fumigation and clearing of bushes across the schools to ensure a cleaner environment for the stundents to return.

 

He informed that Borno State Government is providing facemask for all students in public schools and private schools are also encouraged to make provisions. He however added that the fumigation exercise of the state government is not restricted to only public schools.

 

According to him, the state has constituted a team of monitors that will be going round schools, both public and private to ensure that all covid 19 protocols and the measures put in place by the government are strictly adhered to.

 

He added that funds are being provided to principals in public schools  to clear all the bushes around the schools and make the environment safe and clean before the students resume next week.
