COVID – 19: Schools resumption in Borno/Yobe record impressive turn out

Following the directives by the Federal Government for schools to be re-opened especially the exit classes, schools in Borno and Yobe States have started receiving students on their school compounds.

 

While Borno State announced the resumption date for 9th August, 2020, Yobe State Government put their date for the 8th August for all boarding students while academic activities in all the schools are to begin tomorrow 10th August 2020.

 

Our correspondent who monitored the resumption from both states since Saturday 8th, August observed that the turn of  students has been impressive.

 

The school management and staff were also seeing complying to all COVID 19 protocol as the body temperature of the students were checked on arrival after which they were directed to proceed to the hand-washing point before registering their names.

 

It was also observed that most of the students complied with the wearing of facemask from home even before coming to the school.

 

At the Government Girls Unity secondary School which is housing about three schools due to the insurgency, there was influx of the students from different parts of the state and the country.

 

Hajiya Laraba Aji Mala, the Principal of Government Girls Unity School said she is impressed with the level of turnout of the students back to school.

 

The principal said they were happy to see their students back to school and also promised that the school  management will ensure strict adherence by students to all the COVID 19 protocols.

 

Information available indicate that over 500 students representing 71% of the total number of about 700 students have resumed back to school.

 

The good number of students Government Girls Secondary School Buni, Gari who are now housed by GGC have also resumed.

The Commissioner for Education in Yobe State, Dr. Mohammed Sani Idris who monitored that resumption in the south part of the State described the resumption as “impressive”.

 

In Borno State, large turnout of students was recorded in boarding schools while academic activities are expected to kick off tomorrow Monday, 10th,August, 2020.

 


Reports available indicated that many students have returned back to Government Collage Maiduguri, Yerwa Government Girls Secondary which now houses about four other girls boarding schools in the state.

 

Most of the Schools  in  Maiduguri are housing schools from volatile areas that the population has been displaced.
