NGO Seeks Solidarity, Brotherliness Among Muslims In Africa

Yayasan Budi Ihsan Malaysia (YBIM), a Malaysian based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has called for solidarity and act of brotherliness among Muslims in Africa.

The NGO, which distributed about 600 cows during the last Eid-el-Kabir celebration to 300,000 families in Nigeria as Eidul Adha meat, said the same gesture was done in Chad, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and other Africa countries to show solidarity with fellow Muslims to foster the Muslim brotherhood across the continent.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday in Maiduguri, representative of the NGO in Nigeria, Barr. Labaran Mohammed Umar, said the motive behind the distribution was nothing other than to share the life sustenance in the form of meat for free to the needy and as an ibadah by the fellow Muslims brothers in Malaysia.     

He said: “We targeted a quarter million of the population to benefitted from this programme but based on the animals head count, we surpassed the figure which was estimated to be closed to 300,000 populations in total.”

On the strategies evolved for the distribution, Umar said: “We have worked very closely with the Islamic Religious Council of Africa to determine the beneficiaries which greatly hasten our distribution process by our volunteers. By the 3rd day of Tasriq, we managed to complete the slaughtering of animals and distribution of the meat to various remote areas within the country.”

He commended the efforts of local NGOs like Asafa Educational Foundation (ASF) for their contribution towards the success of the recently held Eidul Adha.

Umar said: “It is on record that over 200,000 Muslims across states like Borno, Taraba, Bauchi, Kaduna, Kwara, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, and Edo benefitted from the Qurban meat distribution from about 600 cows during the last Eid-el-Kabir.

“YBIM also, distributed Eidul Adha cow meat to Chad, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and other Africa countries. This remains an exercise that shows the solidarity with fellow Muslims to foster the Muslim brotherhood across the continent".
