Taimako-CDI, German cooperation, CBM build boreholes for Yobe Communities

The Taimako Community Development Initiative(Taimako-CDI) with support from German Cooperation and Christoffel Blindemission(CBM) have constructed 19 boreholes across Yobe and Borno communities in five Local Government.

 

Flagging off the handing over ceremony of one of the boreholes  at Katarko, in Gujba Local Government, the Executive Director of Taimako CDI, Malam Mohammed  Gambo Garba announced that the boreholes were  either rehabilitated or new ones completely built in the communities.

 

He noted that a total of six new boreholes were constructed in Gujba Local government which is the worse hit by the Boko Haram insurgents.

 

“For any community to qualify for this intervention, we must do a need assessment base on the damage of water facilities and population of the community. We also take into serious consideration the communities that were affected mostly by the Boko Haram crisis,” Gambo explained.

 

He called on the communities to take ownership of the projects and imbibe the culture of maintenance of the facilities so as to have maximum use of the facilities.

 

He also noted that their facilities are built with inclusivity of the disabled people who could also be able to access them for their use.

 

The Village Head of Katarko, Lawan Bukar Karto thank Taimako-CDI and the supporting organizations for identifying Katarko for their intervention.

 

He promised that his people in the community will take good care of the facility and avoid wastage of the water.

Some of the disabled people that attended the event praised Taimako-CDI for provided disability friendly water points for their members to assess, just as they called on the government of Yobe State to take queue from Taimako-CDI’s inclusivity.

 

In his remarks, Kargama Ishaku Ali, Northeast Project  Coordinator  for CBM praised Taimako-CDI as one of their best partners and implementors of their programs.

 

Highlights of the event was the commissioning of the Bulama Abdulmumuni Community Katarko and the symbolic  handing over of the  borehole to Yobe State Government and the Community by the Executive Director of Taimako-CDI.
