15 political parties for LGA elections in Yobe as commission adjudst timetable

                                                                                                                                                            About fifteen political parties have indicated interest to join the December 5 Local Government Elections in the State.

The Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council in the state Mohammed Kukuri disclosed this yesterday at the meeting of stakeholders with the commission in Damaturu.

The fifteen political  parties have all attended   the meeting where the Chairman of the Commission Dr. Mamman Mohammed announced a slight adjudgment in the election time table but the date for the actual election remained unchanged.

Dr. Mamman announced in the new date that the commencement of electoral activities on the 1st of September has been withdrawn to the 4th of September to allow enough time and make adequate preparation against covid 19 in the scheme of things.

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE CHAIRMAN, YOBE STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION ON THE ACTIVITIES FOR SATURDAY 5TH DECEMBER, 2020 LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND COUNCILLORSHIP ELECTION PURSUANT TO THE YOBE STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS LAW, 2002.

Gentlemen of the press,

  1. Recall that on 1st September, 2020, I issued to you NOTICE for the proposed Local Government and Councillorship elections in Yobe State scheduled to hold on 5th December, 2020. The date for this election remain sacrosanct and the NOTICE OF ELECTION issued by this Commission remains respected.

  2. Further recall, that during the said declaration of NOTICE by the Commission, I also revealed to you schedule of events leading to the 5th December, 2010 elections. In the schedule of events, the primary elections by political parties was proposed to commence this Monday, 7th September, 2020.

  3. However, after series of representations from the election stakeholders and taking into consideration the elaborate planning needed to comply with the COVID 19 protocols and guidelines by all the election stakeholders, the commission is compelled to review the schedules for the elections.

  4. Accordingly, the schedule of events contained in the manual of elections issued by the Commission on 1st September, 2020 is hereby withdrawn. A revised schedule dated 4th September, 2020 is hereby released. This new schedule dated 4th of September, 2020 overrides and replaced the earlier time table released on the 1st September, 2020.


  5. The Public and all our election stakeholders are to note this development and act accordingly. The Commission will continue to keep the public and all stakeholders properly and promptly informed of all developments.

  6. We appeal to the public to always respect the Federal Government elaborate protocols on the COVID 19. We assure our stakeholders and all relevant government agencies that this Commission will always promote and enforce the COVID 19 protocols in the discharge of this assignment.
