Yobe Targets Over 22,000 vulnerables for BHCPF

 Yobe State government has projected an enrolment of 22,500 vulnerable beneficiaries through the Basic Health Care Provision Funds(BHCPF) scheme. 

 The Executive Secretary of the State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, Dr. Babagana Tijani disclosed this yesterday at the commencement of registration of the beneficiaries across the State. 

 The available funds is actually projected to cater for a total of 22,500 targeted beneficiaries from across the 178 political wards of Yobe State for equity and inclusion,” Dr. Babagana informed. 

 Dr. Babagana who monitored the exercise within at different locations including the Nayinawa and Mulfa Kallam Primary Healthcare centres in Damaturu said he was satisfied with the level of turnout of the beneficiaries to enrol for the program.

 He explained that the scheme is kicking off in the state after the state governor paid her counterpart funding of N270 million in the 2019 fiscal year. 

 The broad objective of the program Dr. Babagana explained is to reduce maternal mortality and neonatal death rate.

“The broad goal of BHCPF in its initial phase over the next three years is aimed at reducing maternal mortality ratio from 576 to 400 per 100,000 live births representing 31% reduction towards the attainment of global target. Similarly, reduction in neonatal mortality rate from 39 to 26% per 1000 live births representing a 33% reduction towards the attainment of global target and under 5 mortality rate reduction from 120 to 85 per 1,000 live births representing a 29 % reduction towards the attainment of global goal. The BHCPF will in addition ensure that emergency medical conditions receive the urgent care they deserve to minimize mortality and morbidity from these conditions”, the ES explained. 

 He added that the targeted beneficials which include pregnant women, children under 5, the aged from 85 years, physically challenge and indigent poor and children will benefit from free healthcare,
