Women journalists across Nigeria under the aegis of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists today came out in large numbers to pray against the rising insecurity in the country.

Declaring the prayer session open at the NUJ Press Centre in Yobe State, the NAWOJ chairperson in the state, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed regretted the killing of innocent people across the country through banditry, kidnapping, Boko Haram etc.

She stated that the bloodshed in the country has reached a stage that silence is no longer a viable and that prayers has become the most potent weapon that will soften the minds of the bad people in the country.

Students she noted are being kidnapped for huge ransom and killed in private and public schools with no part of the country safe any longer.

“In the aftermath, no geopolitical zone of d country can be said to be very safe and crisis free.public and private schools are no longer safe for our children as students are being abducted here and there.

“We can agree that all is no longer well with our country Nigeria there is bloodsheds every where and these spell doom and insecure future for the nation.

“We as women, mothers and agents of change cannot afford to be silent in the midst of glooming darkness over our dear country Nigeria.

The Yobe first woman journalist commended Gov. Mai Mala Buni for his tireless efforts in supporting security operatives in the state which has brought relative peace to the state.

She explained the use of red color for the event as a sign of bloodshed in the country.

“We choose red to be the colour of the day signifying bloodsheds in the country and Yobe,we decided to involved Idps, orphans, widows, and vulnerables beside our sister women organizations to participate in the prayer and for us to distribute little gifts ahead of the sallah celebration to them,” Hajiya Fatima said.
