Yobe Intellectual Group Condemns Media Attacks on Gov. Buni Over APC Convention

Gov. Buni

By JOE Hemba

The Yobe intellectual group have condemned the recent personal attacks on Gov. Mai Mala Buni in the media over insinuations that he has failed in his duties as a governor.

Under the umbrella of Intellectual and Concerned Indigenes of Yobe State led by its Chairman, Abubakar Kachalla Zaid, the group wondered why some individuals have changed discussions on party politics to personal attacks on the character of their governor whom they believed has delivered on his mandate both as the governor of Yobe and the Chairman Caretaker Committee of the ruling APC.

The chairman at a press briefing in Damaturu said the group is compelled to set the records straight on the leadership of Gov. Buni and his achievement so far in the State, adding that, Gov. Buni has also rescued the APC within the time he was giving the responsibility to re-organize the party.

The group noted that the APC as a party is much healthier today since Gov. Buni took over as the Acting National Chairman, while maintain that, Gov. Buni would not succumb to cheap blackmail from detractors and speculators but to do the right thing for the interest of all Nigerians.

The group also maintained that the same passion Gov. Buni with other patrotic Nigerian used to unseat the PDP in the last general election has been the same since he took over the National assignment of salvaging the party.

“If there are concerns coming from some quota for the APC to hasten its convention, here it comes. In fact, Buni’s cardinal responsibility as the Chairman Caretaker and Extra Ordinary Convention planning committee is to manage the party, mend fences and work to ensure the party goes into its convention and subsequently the general elections on a strong footing. This is a matter that requires him to lead and open and fareaching engagement and not some haste that will degenerate into chaos. Buni cannot afford to compromise the APC because of some cheap blackmail and unfounded allegations and agitations. He has to do what is right for a party that gave him so much and that which he gave everything.

“We stand with him and with the party, we are optimistic that the true sons of APC will rally to ensure victory for the party in the coming elections. Most importantly, we call upon all speculators and doubting Thomas’s to check the records again, if necessary, use a lens and some sense to gauge his performance as the Governor of Yobe State. Check the resilience and faith and how much and how far he has worked the thorns and antagonisms to bring the party to a state where it became attractive to many opposition members, who in their droves joined the party since he became the Chairman of the caretaker team. These are facts. All the governors, senators, MH Reps, former governors and many key accomplished politicians th at joined the party in recent time cannot all be wrong to leave their comfort zone and pitch their tent with Buni and the APC,” the group argued.

The group cautions those making opinions on Gov. Buni to be more “honorable and respectful in their presentations with facts”.

Speaking on his leadership and achievements in the state, the group also argued that Gov. Buni has instituted and completed some projects in the state both in the Health, Housing, Education, and the Social sector.

“For us here in Yobe, as sons and daughters of this space we call home, we cherish revere and see growth from a small state to what it is today, we find it utterly disgusting for persons far from here, far from our realities to concoct what can best be described as an incongruous political smear by espousing, as if they know what happens here, that His Excellency Honourable Mai Mala Buni has failed in fulfilling duties of serving Yobe and Yobeans.

“As indigenes of this state and as people that live and thrive in the communities and streets of the 17 LGAs that make up our map since 2009, Nothing is farther from the truth, farther from integrity and farther from facts than the claim of His Excellency not attending to his constitutional role of providing for the people of this state,” the group argued.

Some of the project listed by the group under the Gov. Buni administration include ; “3600 housing units across the state, the sustenance and improvement of one of the most effective and affordable healthcare systems,105 standard PHCs where constructed across the 17 LGAs, PHCs are being upgraded to General Hospital in Machina, Yusufari and Gulani, this commitment has earned the state a special recognition from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency as they designated His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni as CHAMPION OF PRIMARY HEALTH CARE IN NIGERIA. During the last mid-year review of the routine immunisation system strengthening Memorandum of Understanding (RI MoU), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) have urged other states to emulate Yobe State in its commitment to providing better primary health care services.

"His Excellency Gov. Mai Mala Buni is building the biggest maternity & newborn complex at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital. “He as well build students hostel at University Teaching Hospital for the state owned medical students and another one at Sule Shehu collage of Nursing and Midwifery. “And so many projects to mention far-reaching intervention in education, rural and urban roads, modern markets, improved security, public servants’ welfare, scholarships, revival of industries and intervention to support the unemployed and less privileged among other laudable achievements, we say, without fear of doubt that the last three years were among the most phenomenal in the history of our dear state,” the group explained.
