Prompt Payment of Salaries is a Culture in Yobe State – Head of Service

 The Head of Service for Yobe State Government, Alhaji Garba Bilal has revealed that, prompt payment of salaries in Yobe State has become a culture of both the past and the present administration of Hon. Mai Mala Buni. 

 Alhaji Garba Bilal was reacting to questions from our correspondent on the current dwindling revenue from the Federal Government and how its affecting payment of salaries, pension and gratuities by state government. 

 
According to him, “salaries of civil servants in the state don’t just come regularly but promptly. We usually pay salaries latest 25th day of every month. 

"This has become a culture of past administrations in the state and even the present administration of Hon. Mai Mala Buni,” Alhaji Bilal explained. 

 He noted that Yobe State Government has been up to date with the payment of workers’ salaries even at the difficult times of the recession in 2015 and the COVID 19 period when many state were unbale to pay their workers. 

 He added that, “Payment of salary is like a social contract between the government and the people and Yobe State Government under Hon. Mai Mala Buni takes that seriously. This is because, refusing to pay workers salaries is like breaching that contract and that can cause a lot of problem to the workers and by extension the larger community,” Mr. Bilal said. 

 Speaking on the pension and gratuities of retired workers in the State, Alh. Bilal informed that the State Government allocates N100 million every month for the payment of pension and gratuities. 

 “To demonstrate the seriousness of the state government on the welfare of retirees and pensioners, the state earmarks the sum of N100 million every month for the payment of pension and gratuities to all workers that left the service on retirement and their pension comes in regularly,” the HoS said. 

 He disclosed that Yobe State Government has set of a standing committee that makes quick verification of retired civil servants to avoid delay in the payment of their pension and gratuities upon retirement.
