The Northeast APC Youth Stakeholders Forum yesterday honored the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan with the prestigious award of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Platium Award of Leadership Excellence.
Presenting the award at Gashua, the home town of the senate president at a grand reception rally organized by the Yobe State Government, the a leader of the group, Haruna Sarduna said the Sen. Lawan’s antecedents as a law maker and a political leaders has earned him the honor to go into the hall of fame with the former Prime Minister of the northern region Late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.
“Sen. Lawan’s robust representation and constructive and stable National Assembly as the chairman has not only benefited his on senatorial district alone, but the State, the Northeast region and Nigeria as a whole,” Sarduna said.
According to him, since the death of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the northeast region and indeed Nigeria has not found a leader of such qualities until the emergence of Sen. Ahmed Lawan.
He stressed that, Sen. Lawan has through his leadership has attracted unprecedented development projects and institutions to the Northeast region including the establishment of the Northeast Development Commission(NEDC) which was established to accelerate the reconstruction resettlement and rehabilitation of the region destroyed by the over one decade of Boko Haram insurgency.
“Through the stable leadership of Sen. Lawan at the National Assembly, President Buhari’s was able to deliver the dividends of democracy to the teaming population of the country with the provision of laudable projects including the construction of roads, building of major bridges across the country, provision of electricity and making available loans to small scale farmers to boost the local economy of the people,” Sarduna informed.
In Yobe State for instance, Sarduna informed that Sen. Lawan has brought projects like the electrification of the state from North to the Eastern part and the Mega Water supply projects being undertaking by the Federal Government in the Southern part of the State as well as the Wachakal Airport near Nguru town.
