According to the Gen. Tarfa, the recovery of the North East Region from the menace of the insurgency is one of the key mandate of the NEDC which his team is working hard to achieve.
The former military administrator of old Oyo State who was at the Government House in Damaturu, Yobe State on a courtesy call with the newly constituted Board of the commission described Yobe as a state full of potentials while regretting the level at which the insurgency has dragged it back.
The Chairman said, the commission was in the state to inspect all the projects they have started in the state, assess the various stages of such projects and discuss with the state government on possible new areas of development.
“We are here to see what we planted in the last years and see how grown as well as find new areas where we can partner with you for the development of our people.
As you know, this commission was established for the people of northeast due to the wicked activities of the Boko Hara. We are working very hard to the recovery of the region. This is one of our mandate that we take very seriously,” Gen Tarfa said.
On his part, Gov. Buni who was represented by his deputy Idi Barde Gubana called on the commission to pay attention to some of the institutions in the state that were brutally attacked by the insurgents.
The Schools which include College of Agriculture, Gujba where about 50 students were killed including teacher and the state owned Polytechnic located at Geidam, north of Yobe state.
The Deputy Governor lamented that, “the activities of Boko Haram in College of Agriculture Science and Technology Gujba has the worse of humanitarian crisis in the recent time, where over one hundred students were slaughtered, buildings and utility vehicles were destroyed by Boko Haram.
“Since the attack, the institution was relocated to one of the secondary school in Damaturu the state capital, waiting for the intervention of North East Development commission.
“Equally, the state owned Polytechic located in Geidam experienced similar case, as buildings and utility vehicles were destroyed,” the deputy governor said.
He appealed to the Chairman, management of the NEDC to look into the predicament of these institutions in the state and find a possible solution to enable them possess the requirements of NBTE.
Alh Idi Barde Gubana said NEDC has invested, “massively in the area of infrastructural Development like Houses, roads class rooms and distribution of palliatives as well as provision of health care facilities to the vulnerable.
He urged the NEDC to to ensure full implementation of the master plan to fast track the development and recovery of the North East sub- region.
Lamenting on the scholarship for Education Endowment fund EEF in the NEDC,said many young people from Yobe never enjoyed as most of them are disfranchised from the society due to the financial inability to secure any form of education and most of them are victims of the insurgency.
INPACTONLINENIGERIA reports that the commission went to Buni Garin where they inspected the construction of a Mega School and Housing Estate, the 250 capacity ultra-modern auditorium under construction at Yobe State University, an ICT Centre and a solar borehole at the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu among other projects.
